Google Analytics Introduces "AI Assistant" as a Default Channel Group
Google Analytics 4 (GA4) has officially introduced a new default channel group called “AI Assistant”, making it easier for businesses to track traffic coming from AI chatbots like OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude. Previously, traffic from AI platforms was grouped under the generic “Referral” category. Website owners had to manually create custom channel groups using regex patterns to identify AI-generated visits. With this update, GA4 now automatically recognises supported AI assistant referrers and categorises them under the new AI Assistant channel.
